The
Pain-Relief Pump in Plastic Surgery
Experiencing pain after surgery is never very pleasant.
Pain is bad…not only because it hurts but also because
it slows down healing. Studies have shown that patients who
experience pain heal more slowly than patients who have less
pain. Pain raises your blood pressure which causes more bruising
and swelling. Pain limits a patient’s mobility, may result
in depression and slows down the recovery process.
A caring surgeon works hard to try and minimize the pain
that their patients experience after their operations. That’s
why Dr. Lista has introduced the revolutionary procedure
of the Pain-Relief Pump for patients undergoing surgery at
the Plastic Surgery Clinic.

The Pain-Relief Pump is a small automatic device about the
size of an MP3 player that is filled with the long acting
local anesthetic agent bupivacaine. Tiny catheters, not much
wider than a human hair, lead from the pump to the surgical
site and slowly drip the freezing solution around the area
of the operation. The pump is worn on a little belt around
the patient’s waist and is completely automatic. This
is exactly the same process as is used during an epidural
but instead of going to the back, the freezing solution drips
into the area of the surgery. The only thing that is affected
is the pain at the surgical site. The pump is usually discontinued
24 hours after surgery. The result is amazing. Patients have
no pain following surgery…none.
Dr. Lista’s patients at the Plastic Surgery Clinic
are among the first patients in Canada to routinely enjoy
the benefits of the Pain-Relief Pump and experience a pain
free recovery after plastic surgery. The results are extraordinary.
Patients have almost no pain. Most need nothing stronger
than plain Tylenol after surgery. Although Dr. Lista gives
all his patients prescriptions for pain medications such
as Tylenol #3 or Percocet just in case they need it, almost
every patient has said that they didn’t need
to take any of these strong narcotics. This has been a huge
relief to many patients who have experienced negative side
effects to major narcotics. Such side effects include nausea,
vomiting, stomach upset and allergic reactions. The Pain-Relief
Pump has eliminated these side effects because they have
no pain, so they don’t need to take any of these upsetting
medications.
Dr. Lista offers the Pain-Relief Pump routinely to most
patients undergoing breast augmentation and tummy tuck (abdominoplasty)
surgery. Patients undergoing other procedures often benefit
form the Pain-Relief Pump as well. Dr Lista’s patients
now experience no pain, heal faster, feel happier, have less
swelling and just recover faster. The Pain-Relief Pump has
proven invaluable in plastic surgery patients and is almost
exclusively available at The Plastic Surgery Clinic.
This is what patients say about the Pain-Relief Pump:
“Dr Lista. I’ve had lots of surgery in the past but I’ve
never had an operation that didn’t hurt at all.
The pain pump was amazing. Thank you so much for offering
it to me.”

“To
everyone at the clinic. You guys are amazing. I always
have a bad reaction with pain pills. I was so afraid of
being sick after my surgery. Instead I had no nausea and
didn’t throw up once. I had no
pain so I didn’t need to take any pain pills. Your
anesthetic and the pump were fantastic.”

“Dr Lista and staff. Thank you so much for
the fabulous care. You were all so kind and caring. I’ve
never heard of anyone feeling as good after surgery as I did.
I look great and feel wonderful. I’ve never heard of
the pain pump but it was amazing that I had no pain. I’m
telling everyone I know how great you all are.”
